How to use your metal backup plate:

Materials Required

  1. Your seed phrase (preferably written down securely on paper).
  2. An SX6 steel backup plate.
  3. A marker pen.
  4. A centre punch (automatic preferred).

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Materials
    • Gather your seed phrase, the SX6 steel backup plate, a marker pen, and the centre punch.
  2. Mark the Plate
    • For each word in your seed phrase, use the marker pen to mark the first four letters of the word in the corresponding column on the plate.
    • For example, for the first word “super”:
      • Mark “1. S” for the first letter.
      • Mark “2. U” for the second letter.
      • Mark “3. P” for the third letter.
      • Mark “4. E” for the fourth letter.
    • Repeat this process for all words in your seed phrase, flipping the plate over for words 13 – 24
  3. Verify Your Markings
    • Carefully review the marked letters to ensure they correspond correctly to your seed phrase.
    • Double-check your work by cross-referencing with your written seed phrase.
    • Optional: Test your backup by restoring a new wallet using your seed phrase to confirm accuracy.
  4. Engrave the Plate
    • Using the centre punch, carefully punch the centre of each marked letter into the metal plate.
    • Ensure that the punches are clear and legible.
    • If desired, engrave or scratch a note in the designated notes area of the plate using the centre punch.
  5. Secure Your Backup
    • Place the engraved plate into a paper envelope.
    • Seal the envelope within a tamper-evident bag.
    • Record the unique number on the tamper-evident bag and store this information in a safe location. This number will help verify that the bag has not been tampered with.
  6. Store Safely
    • Store the backup in a secure location, such as a fireproof safe or a lockbox.
    • Avoid keeping it in less secure places like a sock drawer.
